Good causes

Each year we will choose a lead Charity of the Year as the focus for our main fundraising efforts. In 2011/12 our Charity of the Year is Alzheimer’s Research UK, the UK’s leading charity specialising in finding preventions, treatments and a cure for dementia.
In 2010/11 our Charity of the Year was Help for Heroes, directly supporting those service personnel wounded in the service of their country in current conflicts. Our staff, customers and suppliers were inspired to raise a record £1.5 million for this great cause during the year.

Over the years Iceland has supported a considerable number of charities and good causes. In the early 1990s we raised £1 million to help build a new National Institute of Conductive Education for Petö UK, a leading charity working to improve the lives of children and adults with Neurological Motor Disorders. In the late 1990s, Iceland developed a partnership with the Cancer Research Campaign to promote the health benefits of eating more frozen vegetables.
In the early 2000s we supported a variety of good causes including Childline, The Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stroke Association and The Breast Cancer Campaign, while for four years from 2005 our adopted charity was the Alder Hey Children’s Hospital Imagine Appeal, for which Iceland raised over £3 million. We also supported Missing People and helped to trace missing individuals through publicity on our milk cartons. Iceland has also given support over many years to Save the Family and The Prostate Cancer Charity, for which we have raised over £300,000.
